When filming ended on “You Only Live Twice”, Sean Connery said never again to agent 007 saying he couldn’t even do the toilet without the press pointing the camera at him, although he would return to the role for at the time a record fee in 1971s “Diamonds Are Forever” and the non EON 007 “Never Say Never Again” in 1983.
During 1967/ 1968, EON Productions stumbled to find a new actor that fitted the role of James Bond. The search for the new bond took a long time, with main being tested and considered for the part including future 007 Roger Moore, one time big fry ad man was at last given to an unknown Australian actor by the name of George Lazenby. His only film experience came from these few advertising shots, but he tested well especially in the fight sequences, by breaking the stunt mans nose. So not a big name for the role of James Bond. On the other hand, big star quality was introduced for the role of the villain and the leading Bond girl. Telly Savalas, today known for his role as detective Kojak and Diana Rigg already famous for her role as Emma Peel in the television series “The Avengers”. When working as an editor on “You Only Live Twice”, Peter hunt was promised by Mr. Brocolli that he could direct the next Bond epic “On Her Majesty”s Secret Service”. Peter became a clapper-boy at Denham Studios in 1947. For “Dr. No” he developed an editing style he called "crash cutting". Peter was editor on all the previous James Bond movies. Sadly he died from a heart failure in California on the 14th August 2002.
As a tie-in with the new James Bond film, the UK based Anglo Confectionary manufactured under licence from EON a set of fifty-six full colour bubble gum cards, the very first full colour James Bond bubble gum cards ever produced. Because of the lower box-office income these colourful cards soon disappeared from the retail market. To call these cards rare is a total understatement, they are just impossible to find today and it could literally take years to compile a complete set in mint condition. This known fact is counting for all the memorabilia manufactured for this unique James Bond movie.

"Anglo Bubble Gum Wrappers, notice the different colouring"

The wrappers were printed in four different colour variations and sold in a full colour cardboard counter display box. The wrapper and the card reverse stated “The New James Bond 007”, “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”. Starting from card N° 3 the complete film story is depicted in bubble gum card format, from the beach scene where Bond meets Tracy until her sudden death at the end of the movie. The reverse had an on-going story line, and continued from card to card. The measurements for the Anglo bubble gum cards was a little smaller that the previous James Bond card series manufactured by Somportex and Philadelphia.

Cards N° 1 through N° 55 are photographs, card N° 56 which shows Blofeld's Mercedes heading down on Arrábiba road in Portugal is for an unknown reason an illustration. This minor exception doesn't put off the many James Bond memorabilia collectors who hunt for a complete fifty-six card set. On the 5th October 2008 a full set of Anglo’s “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” bubble gum cards was sold on eBay for 432€. A high price and a great investment to the lucky buyer! There are no known errors or misprints.
