Pierce
Brosnan is back as James Bond in “Die Another Day” his
fourth and last adventure as secret agent 007. The Royal Premiere
was held at the Royal Albert Hall on the 18th November 2002 and Rittenhouse
Archives Ltd. spoils the memorabilia collectors with a 90 part trading
card set that covers the whole movie in trading card format. The cards
are printed on a 20 points extra thick cardboard and the production
is strictly limited to only 6000 boxes. Because of the strict limitation
all the cards where already sold out before the movie was released.
The checklist printed on the sell sheet and distributed by Rittenhouse
Archives was a complete mess. First of all the 72 announced card set
turned out to be a 90 card set, second were the five collectable chase sets,
announced as “Casting Call” cards, “The Brosnan
Era”, “The Women Of Bond”, “The Bond Legacy”
& “The Autograph Cards”. Due to some last minute production
changes, “The Brosnan Era” and ”The Bond Legacy”
cards were replaced by the “Montage Cards” & “The
Star Cards”. I was lucky to obtain a full box holding 40 packs each contaning 9 cards, for a total of 360 cards. Out of the 360 cards I managed to create three "Basic Sets", the nine card puzzle, one autograph card, two "Star Cards", four "Women Of Bond" cards and 10 Casting Call cards.

Wrapper containing 9 cards
The first chase set is known as “The Montage
Cards” and exists of nine puzzle cards. Together the nine cards
compose the picture as shown below, the cards were randomly inserted
in 1/4 packs and numbered as M1 to M9. The reverse composed a six
card puzzle showing the gun on an ice cube. The other three cards
provided information on the cast & crew.
The
second chase set existed of twelve “Casting Call” cards,
each “Casting Call” card depicts a full colour still of
a leading actor or actress. The cards are numbered from C1 to C12
and again they were randomly inserted in 1/4 packs. These are the
first “Casting Call” cards ever produced in a James Bond
trading card series.

The third
chase or sub set is again a nine card “Women Of Bond”
set. These nine cards are depicting never seen before glamorous stills
of Jinx and Miranda Frost. The cards are numbered from W1 to W9 and
were inserted in only 1/10 packs what makes them very rare. The “Women
Of Bond“ cards are designed in a very special way, something
similar to the Bond girl cards from the 40th Anniversary set, but
this time the left side is shaped like a wisp of smoke escaping from
a gun barrel. Simply beautiful. Halle Berry who plays the role of
Jinx is shown on six different cards, while shooting “Die Another
Day” Halle received an Oscar for the “Best Actress in
a leading Role” for her part in the movie “Monster’s
Ball”. She was born as Halle Maria Berry on the 14th August
1966 in Cleveland , Ohio, U.S.A. Rosamund Pike was born as Rosamund
Mary Elizabeth Pike on the 28th January 1979 in London, England. She
won the Award for Best Debut at the 2003 Empire Awards for her performance
as Miranda Frost in “Die Another Day”.

The
fourth chase set are the so called “Star Cards”, the six
“Star Cards” were numbered as S1 to S6 and only available
in 1/20 packs. The first card depicting a still of James Bond &
Jinx is the most difficult one to find. On the cards you can find
pictures of James Bond, Jinx, Gustav Graves, Miranda Frost & Zao.
The same pictures were also used by EON Productions to create posters
and banners in order to promote the movie at the theatres. In Thailand
and China the same stills were used to manufacture pocket calendars,
telephone cards, fridge magnets and probably some other stuff I’m
not aware of.
"Star
Cards"
The
fifth and last chase set contains only eight personally signed full
bleed autograph cards instead of the nine foreseen cards mentioned on the sell sheet. The anounced autograph card A7 personally signed by Will Yun Lee was replaced by a autograph card signed by Colin Salmon, this card came as a bonus when purchasing the binder. As we will see in the future coming card series
from Rittenhouse Archives Ltd., they guarantee that each full box
contains at least one autographed card. The autograph cards are numbered
from A1 to A8, card A1 signed by John Cleese was strictly limited
to only 500 copies. The Rosamund Pike card A5 can be found with a litle heart just above her autograph. See the picture beow the autographs.

"Full
Bleed Autograph Cards"
Rittenhouse
Archives Ltd. really knows how to promote their trading card series.
For the worldwide promotion of the “Die Another Day” trading
card set they manufactured two different promotion cards, known as
P1 and P2. The cards were accompanied by an exclusive dealer sell
sheet. This dealer sell sheet was very simple but quiet effective,
a large ice cube used as a pillow for a smoking gun, the movie title
in red ink and not to forget the ooh ooh seven Gun logo, the same
image was used as a teaser poster. The promotion card P2 was only
available when you purchased the exclusive card binder. The checklist
on the reverse is different to what was manufactured in reality.
When
buying a complete case, Rittenhouse Archives treated the buyer with
two bonuses. The first bonus is the “From The Archives Costume
Card AC1”. This card was previous available on an uncut sheet
(See the 40th Anniversary). The second bonus is the very rare Case
Topper MP1, also known as the “Die Another Day Movie Poster
Card”. This card is hand numbered from 1 to 777 and extremely
rare.
As
usual Rittenhouse Archives manufactured an exclusive binder to store
and protect this precious trading card set. This time the binder follows
the same design as the Star Card S1. When purchasing the binder they
treated you with the promotion card P2 and the autographed card A7
as a bonus.

"Die Another Day Exclusive
Binder"
During
the National Show 2003, Rittenhouse Archives Ltd. distributed a special
six card promotion set. This six card promotion set was also available
trough the Rittenhouse Rewards Programme. There you needed 300 points
to purchase the exclusive six card set. The cards are printed on metal
foil and numbered as JP1 to JP6. They were simply packed in a transparent
wrapper. These promotion cards are quiet rare but sometimes they pop
up at eBay.

Show 2003 Promotion Cards Front"
"National
Show 2003 Promotion Cards Reverse"
From
this card series there are many different uncut sheets available,
sadly all of them are issued in a very limited quantity, from maximum
15 to 50 copies. When you were able to purchase ten cases, you were
treated with a so called “Archive Box”. Only 50 of the
boxes where manufactured. These special “Archive Boxes”
contain all the cards with the exception of the cards that came as
a bonus with the binder. The Archive box is identical to the
counter display box except for the orange sticker and the content.
