BOND DANGEROUS LIAISONS (Rittenhouse)
Bond is Back! Not even two full years after the release of “The Quotable James Bond” trading card series and Rittenhouse is back in action with a brand new series of trading cards, the “James Bond 007 Dangerous Liaisons…” trading card set. For the first time in the history of the James Bond trading cards, Rittenhouse offers the many collectors an autograph card personally signed by Ursula Andress, the first Bond girl in the James Bond movie series. In 1962 she played the role of Honey Ryder among Sean Connery in his first James Bond adventure ”Dr. No”. The new trading card series is a staggering 110 card base set randomly distributed by five cards per pack. Each counter display box contains 40 packs. Again there are several chase sets to collect, sixteen autographed cards published in a brand new style known as the full bleed autograph cards, twelve autograph cards that join with the previous “Women Of Bond In Motion” and “The 40th Anniversary” trading cards. As always Rittenhouse Archives Ltd. guarantees that each box contains at least two autographed cards and a complete base set.
"Counter Display Box containing 40 packs" James Bond can’t survive or accomplish his dangerous mission with the help from his allies. This first chase set exist of eighteen brand new “Bond Allies” cards. The “Bond Allies” were randomly inserted in 1/10 packs. A few little errors occurred on the sell sheet, BA16 is "Jack Wade" in "Tomorrow Never Dies", BA17 is "Valentin Zukovsky" in "The World Is Not Enough" and BA18 is "Damian Falco" as seen in "Die Another Day". The shell sheet mentions different names for these three cards. The cards are numbered from BA01 thru BA18. The “Bond Allies” will continue in the future with the release of “The Complete James Bond” trading card set, the “James Bond In Motion” trading card set, the “James Bond Archives” trading card set, the “The James Bond Mission Logs” trading card set and the "James Bond Archives 2014". Along the way some errors occured during the production of “Bond Allies”, such as BA34-BA35-BA36 popping up twice. A mistake? Who knows? Rittenhouse Archives Ltd. couldn’t resist to create a continuation to the “Bond Villains” chase card series. This second chase card set exist of twenty brand new “Bond Villains” cards. The cards depicting black and white stills from the henchman that James Bond had to eliminate during all his adventures. There is only one exception in card F39, “Renard” is not actually a henchmen but in fact he is the real villain. Like we said before these cards are a continuation to the “Bond Villains” from the previous card series. That’s the reason why the card numbering starts from F21 thru F40. The cards were randomly inserted into 1/12 packs what makes them quiet hard to obtain. “Bond Villains”
The third chase set is a continuation to the previous “Bond Girls Are Forever” cards, this series began with the numbers BG01 to BG20 in the “Women Of Bond In Motion” trading card series, the first continuation came in the “The Quotable James Bond” trading cards series with the numbers starting from BG21-BG29. This time we continue with sixteen brand new “Bond Girls Are Forever” cards, here the numbering starts from BG30 thru BG45. The cards were randomly packed in 1/20 packs. The card issued with the number BG46, “Ursula Andress as Honey Ryder” is the “Bond Girls Are Forever” Exclusive Card. Sadly, this exclusive card could only be obtained through the Rittenhouse Reward Program. Reward points can be found on the wrappers of Rittenhouse products. To obtain this last card in the “Bond Girl Are Forever” chase card set you needed 500 points. “Bond Girls Are Forever”
“Autograph Cards Dangerous Liaisons Style”
Until
now, all autographs were done in blue ink, one exception to the rule
is the card A37 signed by Goldie. I guess that during one of the signing
sessions his blue felt-tip pen was empty and that he had to grab for
another one, by chance he got a black one. So his card comes in two
variations, a must have for the die hard collectors. The autograph
card A67 was personally signed by George Baker and came as an exclusive
bonus when buying the specially designed collectors album. George
Baker played the role of Sir Hilary Bray opposite George Lazenby in
"On Her Majesty's Secret Service". One could argue that
George Baker eventually played Bond, as he dubbed for Lazenby during
the period of the film where 007 is impersonating Sir Hilary Bray
at Piz Gloria. During 1977 he joined forces again when playing the
role of Captain Benson in “The Spy Who Loved Me”. Sadly
George past away on the 7th October 2011.
“Autograph Cards 40th Anniversary Style”
To accompany the previous autographed cards in the “Women Of Bond” style, Rittenhouse issued five new cards in that particular style. The most limited card in this style is the card WA25 signed by Madeline Smith. The autographed cards were distributed by 1/20 packs or 2 cards per box. The cards were signed by the following actresses;
• Ursula Andress as Honey in “Dr. No”. “Autograph Cards Women Of Bond Style”
The newest acquisitions for this trading card set are “The Art & Images of 007” cards. Each of these twenty new released cards is printed on a base of real canvas. Mentioned on the dealers sell sheet was the following “Sequentially-Numbered to 500 Each”, actually the cards were numbered from #1 until #375. Sadly they were only distributed by 1/40 per pack or should we say only one per box. These precious canvas cards are very rare and quiet expensive. A continuation of this chase set will follow in June 2010 with the release of the “James Bond Heroes & Villains” card set.
The set promotion started with the distribution of a beautiful designed sell-sheet and again four different promotion cards, P1, P2, P3 and UK . The last card mentioned was only available in the United Kingdom when purchasing a complete case, we can only guess how many of these cards where printed, probably 375, the same amount of the “The Art & Images Of 007” cards. The photograph used on the UK promotion card is a scene taken from “Goldfinger” The image on the reverse of promotion cards P1, P2 & P3 is almost equal to the image on the sell-sheet.
As an extra bonus when purchasing a complete case you received the exclusive case topper card CC4. This costume card contained a piece of fabric coming from the ski-jacket worn by Roger Moore in the James Bond movie “A View To A Kill”. When purchasing two cases you were treated with a second exclusive case topper costume card. The card CC6 with a piece of fabric coming from Halle Berry’s dress worn in “Die Another Day”.
Many of the costume cards have variants, a nice example of card CC6 displaying Halle Berry as Jinkx is shown here below.
And last
but not least, when purchasing six cases in one time you received a
super bonus, the 2nd Tier Multi-Case Incentive Card, an autograph card
personally signed by Sir Roger Moore. Knowing that there were 6000 boxes
packed by 12 per case, then a simple calculation gives you the number
of cards that were signed by Roger Moore.
Rittenhouse Archives Ltd. produced for this new trading card set a state of the art collector’s album. This exclusively designed “Dangerous Liaisons Collectors Album” contains the autograph card A67 personally signed by George Baker. In the 1969’s James Bond movie “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” he played the role of Sir Hilary Bray and in 1977 he joined forces again when he played the role of Captain Benson in “The Spy Who Loved Me”. The binder also contains fifteen nine pocket sleeves to protect your precious cards.
"Dangerous Liaisons Exclusive Binder" A full base set contains one hundred and ten cards. Each movie has at least five cards, each one showing Bond in a dangerous situation. Cards 108,109 & 110 are checklist cards, the front creating a small puzzle. The cards issued as expansion sets have a different numbering. The "Casino Royale" expansion came in 2007 with the release of "The Complete James Bond" and has nine cards. These cards are numbered from DL1 to DL9. The second expansion holding nine cards from "Quantum Of Solace" came in 2009 with the "James Bond Archives". The cards are numbered from DL10 to DL18. The last expansion is only eight "SkyFall" cards, these cards came in 2015 with the "James Bond Archives Edition 2015" trading card set. The numbering goes from DL19 to DL26. “Basic Card Set”
