In the beginning
of February 2010, Rittenhouse Archives announces a brand new James
Bond trading card set. The "James Bond Heroes & Villains"
trading cards. A base set of 81 cards featuring pictures of all the
heroes and villains from all 22 classic James Bond films, from "Dr.
No" to "Quantum of Solace". Announced as a limited
edition of only 7200 boxes, Rittenhouse actually produced 9000 boxes,
notice the picture displayed on the next page of a box tagged with
a silver coloured sticker mentioning 6074 of 9000. Each box is sequentially
numbered up to 9000 and worldwide distributed in 750 cases. For the
first time in the history of James Bond trading cards, Rittenhouse
Archives Inc. guaranties three, yes three autographed cards per box.
Also randomly inserted into the boxes are the prop or so called relic
cards, these inserts are not guarantied by Rittenhouse, so you will
need James Bond's good luck to catch all of them. Card distribution
was set to be starting on the 26th of May, but early May Rittenhouse
announced a first delay. The actual release day was the 2nd June.
The release of three different promotion cards began early spring
2010. The promotion cards are numbered as following, P1, P2 and CP1.
The card CP1 was only distributed at the 1st Baltimore Non-Sports
Card Convention held on the 21st March 2010. Until now, the promo
card P2 seems to be the rarest of them all and already fetching prices
around 8 EURO or more. The fourth promotion card P3 will pop-up as
a binder exclusive. Very sad for the collectors, but due to lower
down production expenses, Rittenhouse Archives Ltd. didn't release
a sell sheet. A downloadable sheet was available.
For distribution
and presentation purposes, the designers working for Rittenhouse Inc.
had to created a new box. The box shows a still of James Bond actor
Daniel Craig & the title for the new trading card set "Heroes
& Villains". For the first time in history the box mentions
"3 Autograph Cards Inside".

"Counter Display Box"
As
usual, a new card series includes some bonus sets. The "Heroes
& Villains" set offers four bonus sets and three different
styles of autographed cards. The first bonus or chase set is called
"Men Of James Bond". Needles to explain here that this is
a six card set containing the pictures of all the actors who took
the role of James Bond. The cards are randomly inserted into 1/18
packs, or 1 per box. Actually these cards are not really cards, the
picture is printed on a thick transparent acryl instead of thick paper
stock. You can actually look trough the card. Like Bond girls, these
cards will last forever.
I guess
everybody remembers the two fabulous lenticular card sets, the "Women
Of Bond In Motion" and "James Bond In Motion". Because
the "Women Of James Bond In Motion" ended with "Die
Another Day", Rittenhouse manufactured six new "Women Of
James Bond In Motion" lenticular cards to update your lenticular
card set until "Quantum Of Solace". A strange thing occurs
here, there are two "Casino Royale" cards and four "Quantum
Of Solace" cards. The "James Bond In Motion" card set
ended with "Casino Royal", so only three new cards were
created to update your card set until the latest Bond blockbuster
"Quantum Of Solace". The new cards are randomly inserted
into 1/18 packs or again only one card per box.
The next
chase set holds another nine cards to expand the previously issued
chase card sets. The cards are randomly inserted into 1/24 packs or
just one per box.
-
Two
“40th Anniversary” style cards BV0022 & BW0022.
A Bond Villain and a Bond Girl (cut style) card to complete your
chase sets issued in 2002.
-
One
“Bond Girls Are Forever” card BG73, the first cards
for this chase set were issued in 2003 when "The Women Of James
Bond In Motion" were spread into the wonderful world of card
collectors.
-
Three
“Bond Villains” cards F68, F69 & F70 to expand the
already huge collection of villains. The start of this never ending
chase set came white the release of the "Quotable James Bond"
trading cards.
-
Two
“Art & Images of 007” cards AI21, AI22 to complete
the chase set that was issued with the "James Bond Dangerous
Liaisons" in 2006.
- One “Quotable Theme
Song” card T11 to update the already existing ten cards that
were issued in 2004 with the "Quotable James Bond" trading
cards. The front side shows the "Casino Royale" theme song,
the reverse shows the "Quantum Of Solace" theme song.
Props &
relics are the most wanted items among the James Bond collectors.
Everybody likes to have a piece of the real action in there living
room. On of the most precious movie props ever made is probably the
24 karat Golden Gun replica manufactured by SD Studios. During 2010
an American based company by the name of Factory Entertainment recreated
the Golden Gun replica, which is now available in very limited quantities.
Since 2007 when the "The Complete James Bond" trading cards
were issued, Rittenhouse Archives included the prop cards into their
trading card program. Now the new chase set includes pieces from "The
World Is Not Enough", "A View To A Kill", "Die
Another Day", "Live And Let Die" & "The Living
Daylights". Eight new sequentially numbered relic cards were
randomly inserted into 1/120 packs. As you may notice, the cards JBR6,
JBR8, JBR11 and JBR12 are missing. JBR8 is being issued as a case
topper and JBR12 as a three case incentive card. The missing cards
JBR6 & JBR11 will probably pop-up in another new trading card
series. Each card is sequentially numbered and extremely limited,
especially card JBR3 with only 150 printed cards.
Like Bond
Girls Are Forever, we could say the same about the James Bond autographed
cards. This new trading card set includes the three styles of autographed
cards for a total of 64 including the six-case incentive autograph
card. More than ten autographs from the latest James Bond movie "Quantum
Of Solace" including the man himself Daniel Craig. Also one to
mention here is an autographed card from miss Bettine Lebeau. She
played the role of professor Dent's secretary in "Dr. No".
So this set includes some autographs from the first James Bond movie
until the last one. Let's start with the 28 autograph cards in the
40th Anniversary Style. If one looks carefully at these cards you
may notice some errors. Card A124 displays a black and white picture,
card A127 is clearly not a picture from “GoldenEye” but
from “Die Another Day”. John Cleese is listed as “Q”,
this should be “R” as his character became “Q”
in “Die Another Day”.
“Autograph
Cards 40th Anniversary Style”
The
following five personally signed autograph cards are printed in the
“Women Of Bond” style. This particular style started in
2003 when the "Women Of James Bond In Motion" trading card
set was issued:

The previous
trading card set known as the "James Bond Archives" gave
us 34 full bleed autograph cards, numbered from xxx-01 to xxx-34.
The "James Bond Heroes & Villains" set includes 30 new
full bleed autograph cards and a very strange thing here is that the
cards are also numbered from xxx-01 to xxx-30. So, what’s NEW
here? Well for the first time there are three duo autograph cards.
The first duo card is signed by the two Meyer twins, David & Tony.
They played as Grischka and Mischka in "Octopussy". The
second duo card is signed by Eunice Gayson and here daughter Kate.
Both girls gambled at the casino table with a time difference of 33
years. (“Dr. No” in 1962 & “GoldenEye”
in 1995). The third duo card is a must have for the die-hard collectors.
The card is personally signed by Sir Roger Moore and George Lazenby.
Here the difficulty is that the card is a six case incentive. I would
say "good luck hunting on the web".

To
please the desire of the many card collector's, Rittenhouse Archives
issued for each case one of the following three different prop/relic
case topper cards. The first case topper is the prop/relic card JBR8
holding a piece of leather from the speedboat interior used in “Moonraker”.
The card is sequentially numbered up to 777. The three case incentive
case topper holds a small piece from the Carabinieri windshield as
seen in "Quantum of Solace". Also sequentially numbered
to only 333 cards. The six case incentive case topper is the dual
autographed card personally signed by Roger Moore & George Lazenby.
When you should have the financial resources to buy fifteen cases,
then Rittenhouse offers you an "Archive Box" for free. Each
archive box includes all of the pack inserted chase, relic and autograph
cards. It also has both the 3-case and 6-case incentive cards, but
doesn't contain the case topper or a simple base set.
Again Rittenhouse Archives created an exclusive collectors album or
binder to hold and protect this precious card series. As always, the
binder is finished in shiny scuba vinyl, this time with a black &
brown finishing depicting a centre image of Daniel Craig accompanied
on his right side with smaller circular pictures of the other Bond's.
The reverse contains a centre image of "Dr No" again flanked
with circulair pictures of "Auric Goldfinger", "Francisco
Scaramanga", "Ernst Stavro Blofeld", "Dominic
Greene" & "Gustav Graves". And as usual the binder
includes the exclusive promotion card P3.

Bond Heroes & Villains Exclusive Binder & Promo card

Something
unusual to see is a factory sealed case, nothing really special but
nice to see and perhaps to own one for your personal James Bond collection.
A case is pictured here below.

"Factory Sealed Case"
The basic card set holds eighty-one cards, each card displaying a leading character from the first twenty-two James Bond movies. The picture in the background is black & white, the foreground shows a close up of the same actor in full colour. A six card "SkyFall" extension came as an insert set with the "James Bond Archives Edition 2015"
